【摘要】:1.1Thisspecificationcoversrefinedcadmiummetalinslab,ballorstickform.1.2Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.1.3ToxicityWarning:Solubleandrespirableformsofcadmiummaybeharmfultohumanhealthandtheenvironmentincertainformsandconcentrations.Therefore,ingestionandinhalationofcadmiumshouldbecontrolledundertheappropriateregulationsoftheU.S.OccupationalSafetyandHealthAdministration(OSHA).Cadmium-containingalloysandcoatingsshouldnotbeusedonarticlesthatwillcontactfoodorbeverages,orfordentalandotherequipmentthatisnormallyinsertedinthemouth.Similarly,ifarticlesusingcadmium-containingalloysorcoatingsarewelded,soldered,brazed,ground,"flame-cut,"orotherwiseheatedduringfabrication,adequateventilationmustbeprovidedtomaintainoccupationalcadmiumexposurebelowtheOSHAPermissibleExposureLevel(PEL).Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.ItistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtobecomefamiliarwithallhazardsincludingthoseidentifiedintheappropriateMaterialSafetyDataSheet(MSDS)forthisproduct/materialasprovidedbythemanufacturer,toestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpractices,anddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.

【摘要】:Packagingmaterialsmaybeexposedtochemicalssuchaswater,alcohol,acid,etc.duringtheirlifecycle.Ifitisanticipatedthatthepackagingmaterialwillbeexposedtoachemical,itisimportantthattheinkorcoating,orboth,notdegrade,soften,ordissolveasaresultofthatcontact.Thetestingincludedinthispracticeisapplicabletosurfaceprintedandcoatedmaterialsdesignedtoberesistanttoaspecificchemical.Thechemicalstobetestedshouldbecompatiblewith(thatis,notdamageordegrade)thesubstratebeingprintedorcoated,orboth.Therearefourseparatemethodsdetailedinthispractice.ThemethodsrepresentincreasingdegreesofseverityfromMethodAtoMethodD.Selectionofmethodshouldbebasedonthetypeofexposureanticipated.Forexample,thepouringmethod(MethodA)istypicallyusedwhereincidentalexposureisanticipated,suchasaspillorsplashofchemicalonthematerialsurface.MethodBorCistypicallyusedwhenchemicalresistanceisdesireddependingonthelevelofexposure(B)andabrasion(C)anticipated.MethodDwouldrepresentcontinualcontactbetweenthechemicalandmaterialandwouldneedtobechemical-proof,(forexample,ifthepackageweretobesubmergedinthechemicalandexposedtoabrasionoveraperiodoftime.)Thispracticedoesnotaddressacceptabilitycriteria.Theseneedtobejointlydeterminedbytheuserandproduceroftheproduct,basedonthetypeofexposurethatisanticipated.1.1Thispracticedescribestheprocedureforevaluatingtheabilityofanink,overprintvarnishorcoatingtowithstandchemicalexposure.Typicalchemicals,whichmaycomeincontactwiththepackage,includewater,alcohol,acid,etc.Thespecificchemicalandmethodofchoiceaswellasdeterminationofmeasurementoutcomearelefttouserstoagreeuponinjointdiscussion.Suggestionsforwaystomeasureandcollectinformationareofferedinthevariousmethodslistedinthispractice.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
